International Soccer Archive - Player Profiles - Gary Naysmith (Everton & Scotland)
Gary is an outstanding defender who first attracted the eye of Walter Smith when he was coming through the youth ranks at the Tynecastle Stadium. A former Scotland Young Player Of The Year, Gary has blossomed into a determined and keen footballer, who, despite his young years, can cope with the most fearful of forwards. A player who is comfortable at either left-back or wing-back, he has the ability to deliver accurate crosses and also possesses the talent to get himself into goalscoring positions. A former Under-21 Scotland international, Gary has made the step up to the senior side, replacing his former and current team-mate David Weir as a substitute in a World Cup qualifier against Latvia in September 2000. He has been a regular for his country ever since and even scored in Berti Vogts' first win as manager in a 2-0 win over Iceland in October 2002. |
